| Glycin is one of the more exotic developers used today as its availability is limited to one supplier, The Photographers Formulary, who make there own. Initially glycin
was utilized for paper developers however with the advent of the miniature negatives being produced in the 50's and 60's, it won much favoritism due
to it's lack of grain and low fog formation. Around the turn of the century glycin was used as a stand developer in which film was left for as long as
24 hours with little or no agitation. In most formulas it required at least 1 hour to develop a film which was far to long for a public that was gearing up for faster everything.
In mixing glycin patients is a must! Its solubility is only .2g/liter making it one of the hardest chemicals I have ever tried to mix. Give it plenty of time and a little sod. sulfite and it will dissolve. A little alcohol may help in mixing. Starting recommendations by Ilford were for a 1:7dilution for 15 min. @ 68 however I found this a little hot so I use a 1:15 dilution for 25 mins. | |
